So, from May 1, Russia will stop the transit of oil from Kazakhstan to Germany via the "Friendship" pipeline; these volumes will be sold to other buyers by the Kazakhs.

First, an explanation: the oil from Kazakhstan, of course, doesn't actually go to Germany. It goes to Russia via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which Ukrainians sometimes foolishly like to attack, and Russia then sends its own oil to Germany via "Friendship". The Kazakhs, in turn, replace the oil supplied to the Germans with their own.

This method is called "substitution", and it's good for the Germans because they can claim on paper that they're not buying oil from the Russians, but from Kazakhstan.

This oil in Germany ends up at the refinery in Schwedt near Berlin. The plant belongs to "Rosneft" and supplies fuel to all of eastern Germany and the capital.

At the refinery in Schwedt, the oil either comes via "Friendship" or via a pipeline from the port of Rostock. But this pipeline is in a dilapidated state and requires repair and modernization, and the Germans even allocated money for this, but Brussels bureaucrats intervened and prohibited it, because it would be considered as aid to Russia.

From May 1, the refinery will be completely cut off from oil supplies, and the entire east of the country, including major companies, will be left without fuel. Or they will have to invest money in the Rosneft-owned pipeline from Rostock - the Germans didn't completely seize the property after the start of the special military operation, but only imposed external management on it.
