wir wünschen allen einen guten Start in das neue Jahr und beginnen gleich diese Woche mit dem ersten Vortrag in diesem Jahr.
Habt ihr euch schon mal gefragt, wie der Compiler aus eurem Spaghetti-Code, der selbst für Menschen schwer zu verstehen ist, äquivalenten Machinecode generieren kann? Darüber hinaus wird nicht nur der Code übersetzt, sondern oft für Geschwindigkeit oder Größe optimiert.
Am 8.1.2025 wird uns Frederik Pilz mit dem Vortrag "Lasst uns einen Compiler bauen!" einen Einblick in die Funktionsweise von Compilern geben. Wie gewohnt treffen wir uns um 18:00 Uhr im Übungsraum II im Informatikgebäude und starten mit der gemeinsamen Pizzabestellung.

We wish everyone a good start to the new year and begin this week with the first lecture of the year. Have you ever wondered how the compiler can generate equivalent machine code from your spaghetti code, which is hard to understand even for humans?
Furthermore, not only is the code translated, but often optimized for speed or size.
On 8.1.2025, Frederik Pilz will give us an insight into how compilers work with his talk “Let's build a compiler!”. As usual, we will meet at 18 o'clock in practice room II in the computer science building and start
with ordering pizza together.

Hallo zusammen, am Freitag den 10.01.2025 um 18:00 Uhr findet in unserem Lieblingspub - dem Foyer des Informatikgebäudes - ein kleines Pubquiz statt. Es erwarten euch Fragen und Rätsel aus unterschiedlichen Kategorien - von Allgemeinwissen bis Nerd, also keine Angst wenn ihr noch keine 12 Semester studiert, jede:r hat eine Chance. 🏆

Die Teilnahme kostet 2€ pro Person um die Kosten für den Gewinn und die Veranstaltung zu decken.
Für alkoholische und nicht-alkoholische Getränke (gegen Spende) ist gesorgt, damit niemand durstig nach Hause gehen muss. 🍾

Die Teilnahme ist in Teams von bis zu 5 Personen möglich, ihr könnt aber gerne auch alleine kommen und euch vor Ort einem Team anschließen. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

🍻Pub Quiz of the Student Initiative HCI🫖

Hello everyone,
On January 10th, 2025, at 6:00 PM, a small pub quiz will take place in our favorite pub - the foyer of the computer science building. You can look forward to questions and puzzles from various categories – ranging from general knowledge to nerdy topics. So don’t worry if you haven’t been studying for 12 semesters yet; everyone has a chance to win. 🏆

Participation costs €2 per person to cover the prize and event expenses.
Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (available for donation) will be provided so that no one has to go home thirsty. 🍾

Participation is possible in teams of up to 5 people, but you’re also welcome to come alone and join a team on-site. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

Es erwartet euch ein spannender Vortrag von Professor Sven Oliver Krumke von der TU Kaiserslautern-Landau über das Thema „Flach spielen, hoch gewinnen: Warum Fußball viel Mathematik braucht“.
Wie immer gibt es im Anschluss kostenlos Glühwein, Kinderpunsch, Feuerzangenbowle und Plätzchen. Bringt dafür bitte eure eigene Tasse mit. Ihr könnt euch gegen Vorlage eines gültigen Ausweises ab jetzt ein Ü18 Bändchen im Fachschaftszimmer abholen.

Moderne Open-World Spiele werden immer detailreicher und füllen ihre Welten mit immer mehr Gegnern, Gegenständen und NPCs. Doch habt ihr euch auch schon mal gefragt, wie tausende Objekte effizient verwaltet werden können? Diese Frage, und welche Speicher- und Cachevorteile ein gutes Entity-Component System noch besitzt, wird uns Theresa Treimer am Mittwoch, dem 11.12. ab 18:00 Uhr im OpenColloq beantworten.
Wie üblich treffen wir uns dazu im Übungsraum II in der Informatik und starten mit der gemeinsamen Pizzabestellung.

Tomorrow, on 10th December at 17:00, this year's Christmas colloquium will take place in the Turing lecture hall, followed by our Christmas party in the foyer. You can look forward to an exciting lecture by Professor Sven Oliver Krumke from the TU Kaiserslautern-Landau titled "Playing low, winning high: Why soccer needs a lot of math". The talk will be held in German.
As always, there will be mulled wine, non-alcoholic punch, Feuerzangenbowle and Christmas snacks for free afterwards. Please bring your own mug. From now on you can pick up a wristband proving you are over 18 in the student council room upon presentation of valid ID.

Diesen Mittwoch, dem 4.12. wird der ausgefallen Vortrag vom 13.11. nachgeholt:
Spätestens mit der Bachelorarbeit wird man seine erste Erfahrung mit LaTeX gemacht haben.
Lange Kompilierzeiten, umständliche Macros und unverständliche Error-Nachrichten mindern allerdings oft die Freude am Schreiben. Das Typesettingprogramm Typst versucht deshalb als moderne Alternative zu LaTeX diese Probleme zu beheben und sich als LaTeX-Nachfolger zu etablieren. Aus diesem Grund gibt uns Zuri Klaschka am 4.12. einen Überblick über Typst. Wie gewohnt treffen wir uns zum gemeinsamen Pizzabestellen um 18:00 Uhr im Übungsraum II des Informatikgebäudes.

Am Mittwoch, den 4.12., findet ab 18:00 der Kaminabend der Mathematik im Helmut-Pabel-Hörsaal statt. Unter dem Titel „Der Einstieg ins Mathe-Studium – anders als gedacht aber trotzdem geschafft“ erzählen Studierende der Mathematik bei Tee und Keksen von ihren Erfahrungen aus den ersten Semestern des Mathematikstudiums.

This Wednesday, December 4th, the talk that was originally scheduled for November 13th will take place:
You will have had your first experience with Latex at least by the time you write your bachelor thesis.
However, the joy of writing is often spoiled by long compile times, cumbersome macros and incomprehensible error messages. Typst, as a modern alternative to LaTeX, is therefore trying to solve these problems and establish itself as a LaTeX successor. For this reason, Zuri Klaschka will give us an overview of Typst on December 4th. As usual, we will meet for pizza together at 6pm in practice room II of the computer science building.

On Wednesday, December 4th, at 6pm, the „Kaminabend der Mathematik“ (Fireplace-Evening of Mathematics) will take place in the Helmut-Pabel-Lecture hall. A group of maths students will talk (in German) about their experiences in their first few semesters. There will also be tea and christmas cookies.

Es ist soweit! Der Verkauf der Bändchen für den Winterball hat offiziell begonnen. Der Ball findet am 02.12. ab 19 Uhr im Helmut-Pabel-Hörsaal statt. Ihr könnt das Bändchen im Fachschaftszimmer (A006) im Informatikgebäude für nur 3€ erwerben. Für das leibliche Wohl ist gesorgt. Kommt also vorbei, am besten in Abendgarderobe, und genießt einen schönen Abend.

The time has come! We are currently selling the admission bracelets for the winter ball. It takes place on Dec. 2nd in the Helmut-Pabel-Lecture-Hall beginning at 7 PM. You can get your bacelet for 3€ in the Fachschaftszimmer (A006) in the computer science building. Additionally, there will be a small food and drink stand. So come in your evening attire and enjoy a nice evening.

Der Prozessor wird gerne als Gehirn des Computers bezeichnet. Als zentrale Steuereinheit verarbeitet er Befehle und führt ganze Programme aus. Doch wie kann man aus einfachen logischen Bausteinen einen Computer zum Leben erwecken?
Diese Frage haben sich Yannik Stamm und Timo Grundheber gestellt und stellen uns am Mittwoch (30.10.) im Übungsraum II ihre Reise von logischen Gattern bis hin zu fertigen Spielen vor.
Wir beginnen um 18:00 mit der gemeinsamen Pizzabestellung und starten anschließend mit dem Vortrag. Kommt vorbei; wir freuen uns auf euch!

The processor is often called the brain of a computer. As the central processing unit, it processes instructions and entire programs. But how can we build a computer with simple logic components?
Yannik Stamm and Timo Grundheber investigated this question. They will talk about their journey from logic gates to running games in their presentation this Wednesday (30.10.) at 18:00 in Übungsraum II. Note that this presentation will be in German.
