Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“The person’s lifetime is judged by its end, and man’s actions are regarded by their final deeds. Whoever breaks his ablution before the final salutation, surely his prayer becomes invalid, and whoever breaks his fast before sunset, surely his fast is invalid, and whoever is sinful at the end of his life, surely he will meet Allāh in that state.”

[al-Fawā’id | Pg. 99]
‎The Virtue of Friday:

‎Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله

‎"Friday is the day of worship, its comparison to other days like the comparison of the month of Ramadan to other months and the hour in it is like the Night of Decree in Ramadan."

‎[Zaad Al-Ma’aad | 1398]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“How strange it is that when a servant of Allāh has a problem, he seeks the help of Allāh but he never asks Allāh to cure his heart before it dies of ignorance, neglect, fulfilling one’s desires and being involved in innovations. Indeed, when the heart dies, he will never feel the significance or impact of his sins.”

[al-Fawā’id | Pg. 180]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“The greenery and verdure of this world is like a tree. The rapid manner in which the world vanishes away bit by bit is like the shade. And the slave is a traveler heading toward the meeting with his Lord. When the traveler sees a tree on a hot day, he does not deem it appropriate to build a home under the tree or take it as a permanent residence; rather he shades himself according to his need. If he exceeds this, he is cut off from his companions.”

[The Dunya & Its Reality | Pg. 18]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“Following one’s desires and having extended hope is the core of evil. Following one’s desires blinds one from seeing what is right, and having extended hope makes one forget the Hereafter and prevents one from preparing for it.”

[al-Fawā’id | Pg. 159]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“Which punishment can be worse than disregarding your own self and squandering it, forgetting the matters that benefit it, forgetting its illness and cure and the reasons for its joy, success, uprightness and its eternal life in the permanent abode of bliss?.

[The Disease & The Cure | Pg. 186]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“Friday is the day when the people of Paradise will receive the ever-increasing reward. It is the day when they will see Allāh, the Exalted. Those who were the earliest to go to the mosque on Friday will be the first to receive this honor. Thus, the nearest to Allāh were those nearest to the Imam on Friday. The residents of Paradise are eager for Friday, the day of such increase, due to the honor they will receive on that day.”

[Zaad Al-Ma’ad | 1/59-65]

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“If the heart is not pure or honourable enough, and distant from every evil and malice, then it is unworthy to love, know and aspire to Allāh. On the contrary, the lowest description of man’s heart is that he loves and aspires to this worldly life instead of to Allāh, the Almighty.”

[al-Fawā’id | Pg. 48]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“Nothing can be beneficial to the heart like reciting the Qur’ān meditatively. It causes one to have love for Allāh, passion, fear, beseeching Allāh, reliance upon Him, gratefulness to Allāh and patience, in addition to everything that puts life into the heart.”

[Miftāh Dār as-S’ādah | Pg. 187]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“Since their creation, people have always been travelers,

And they have no place to go,

Except in heaven or hell.”

‏[الفوائد (٢٧٦)]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“Supplication is remembrance of the One being called upon, Exalted is He; it includes requesting from Him and praising Him by His names and attributes; thus, it is remembrance and more.”

بدائع الفوائد - (ص٥٢١)
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“Which pleasantry is better than the righteousness and comfort of the heart? The knowledge of the Lord, loving Him and complying with His commands? And is there any other life in reality worth living other than the one with a sound heart?.”

[The Disease & The Cure | Pg. 215]
Ways of Strengthening Patience

Knowledge:

The element of knowledge is necessary in order to realise the benefits of following the commands of Allāh and the sense of happiness and fulfillment that one may attain by following them; and to understand what it is in the forbidden things that causes harm, imperfection and evil.

When a person realises that, and adds strong willpower, the desire for spiritual achievement and the wish to live as a complete human being (as opposed to an animal-like existence), then it will become easy for him to attain the quality of patience.

The bitterness of patience will become sweet and the pain of patience will become joy.”

[Patience & Gratitude | Pg. 32]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“One must recall the punishments that have been set by Allāh as a punishment for perpetrating sins. Consider some of them touching you and make this a motive for the soul to abandon all sin. Here I shall list a few that should suffice the intellectual and truthful one

From it: A seal placed on the heart and the hearing, a veil over the sight, a lock on the heart and a shield over it, a covering and seal over the heart, turning away the hearts and the eyes, an intervention between the individual and his heart, heedlessness from remembering Allāh, forgetting oneself, forsaking the need for Allāh to purify your heart, the chest feeling constricted as if it is rising into the sky, diverting the hearts from the truth, increasing to its illness, falling back into error.”

[The Disease & The Cure | Pg. 209]
Tawhīd Is The Foundation of Happiness

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“The greatest way to achieve happiness is through Tawhīd. The happiness of a person’s heart depends upon its perfection, strength and increase.”

[The Keys to Happiness | Pg. 33]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“From the plots of the Shaytān (satan) and his traps which he uses to influence those who possess only a small share of knowledge, intellect, and religion—and with which he captures the hearts of the ignorant, and the people of falsehood—is listening to whistling (al-mukhā), clapping (at-tasdiyyah), and singing accompanied by instruments, which are forbidden, that turns the hearts away from the Qur’ān and causes them to be preoccupied with disobedience and transgression.

So it is the Qur’ān of the Shaytān and the dense barrier that keeps people from the Most Merciful. And it is the enticement of homosexuality and illicit sexual promiscuity. Through it, the immoral lover entices his lover to the very limits of their desires.

With it, the Shaytān deceives the astray souls and makes it seem good to them through scheming and delusion. He inspires within them baseless doubts to justify its “goodness” and his suggestions are accepted; because of this, it causes the Qur’ān to become abandoned.”

[The Evils of Music | The Devil’s Voice & Instrument | Pg. 12]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“Which life is better than the life of a person whose worries have all united and become one concern directed towards attaining the pleasure of Allāh, gathered the scattered feelings of his heart through the devotion to Allāh, whose intentions and thoughts were once divided- each scattered in a different valley- are now focused on Allāh.

So the remembrance of the Most Beloved, the love to Him and the longing to meet Him and the comfort in being near to him becomes overwhelming for him. His concern, intentions and objectives and the feelings of his heart revolve around all this.”

[The Disease & The Cure | Pg. 329]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“Truly, a person who favours a current pleasure, whose effect will disturb his life and Hereafter, must be a person with no sense of sensibility.

For how can a person favour such pleasures that are as temporary as a dream and as short as a moment that a person spends with a good character visiting him in a dream, over an everlasting pleasure that is among the ultimate pleasures!

How could a person sell all that for such mortal lowly pleasures that come with pain and are also achieved with pain and whose result is nothing but pain!”
