Hello Soneium Community 🌐

We have identified and resolved an issue on the Soneium Minato Testnet that began on January 1 at 02:07 UTC, coinciding with the Holocene upgrade and impacting the performance of the network. This issue, marked by a sudden drop in block height, occurred when the Minato batcher lagged in propagating the safe L2 head. This delay ultimately exceeded the 12-hour sequencing window, leading to a chain split.

While our team continues to investigate the root cause, we have already implemented a solution, and our developers are conducting rigorous testing to ensure the stability and optimal performance of the network moving forward.

The sequencer has been restored to the latest safe L2 head, and Minato's public endpoint, as well as SCS' private endpoints, are now back online and capable of processing transactions. However, please note that these endpoints are currently supported by a single cluster, which may result in some performance impact for users outside the Asia region.

⚠️Next Steps for Node Operators and Indexers

Node Operators: Your nodes should have self-healed following the sequencer restoration. If you are still experiencing issues, please use the snapshot provided in these instructions to restore your node: Restore Minato Node from Snapshot.

Indexers: Projects and builders using indexing infrastructure should re-index their databases starting from the safe L2 head (#6185373) to ensure data accuracy.

Additionally, the Soneium Minato block explorer may temporarily display incorrect information as we work through this recovery process.

We understand the inconvenience this may have caused and deeply appreciate your patience and support during this time.

📢 Soneium Minato Holocene Upgrade – Friday, 20th of December

Dear 🌐 Soneium Developers and Users,

We’re thrilled to share exciting news about Soneium’s ongoing evolution! Following last month’s successful Granite upgrade, Soneium Minato will soon transition to the latest OP Stack release, Holocene, on Friday, December 20th

The Holocene upgrade introduces a streamlined and stricter block derivation pipeline, enhancing the Fault Proof System’s performance and interoperability under worst-case scenarios.💡

The upgrade will not immediately affect Soneium developers or end users. However, minor delays in pending transactions may occur during the rollout of new node binaries shortly before the upgrade on December 20th.

🚨 Please note that this upgrade extends the challenge period for Soneium Minato from 30 minutes to 7 days, aligning it with the rest of the Superchain Ecosystem.

This change brings important updates for both End Users and Bridge Operators of Soneium Minato 🛠:

🔧End Users: Users with pending withdrawals that were not finalized before the activation of Fault Proofs will need to re-prove their transactions on the Superbridge app. Due to the extended 7-day challenge period, withdrawals initiated less than 7 days before the upgrade will only be finalized 7 days after the upgrade completes. For further details, please refer to the notice.

🔧Bridge Operators: Please ensure your users are aware that Soneium Minato withdrawals will now require a minimum of 7 days. Also, review your bridging logic to confirm it’s aligned with the updated L1 contracts.

Following the successful Fjord & Granite upgrade of Soneium Minato on Monday, the next milestone is the activation of Fault Proofs with our L1 contract upgrade on November 4th📅. This upgrade extends the challenge period for Soneium Minato from 30 minutes to 7 days, aligning it with the rest of the Superchain Ecosystem.

🚨In preparation for the Fault Proof upgrade, the Soneium Native Bridge interface has been deprecated as of today. For token transfers between Ethereum Sepolia and Soneium Minato, all users must migrate to the Superbridge app. Superbridge offers improved efficiency, fast transactions, and a more user-friendly experience for all cross-chain interactions within the Superchain Ecosystem.

The extended challenge period also brings important changes affecting Soneium Bridge Operators and End Users🛠:

🔧End Users: Users with pending withdrawals that are not finalized before the upgrade will need to re-prove their transactions after the upgrade is complete. Exciting developments are on the horizon! Soneium Minato’s dual upgrade to Granite, the latest version of the Optimism OP Stack, is fully set and ready to launch in just four days, on Monday, October 28th📅. Currently, Soneium Minato is running on the Ecotone version of the OP Stack, so this dual upgrade will also include the changes from Fjord.

This upgrade will introduce several key improvements, including the integration of the RIP-7212 precompile to reduce gas costs for smart wallet applications, along with enhancements to improve network resilience and efficiency.

Please note that there will be minor delays for pending transactions during the rollout of the new node binaries, as well as brief downtime shortly before the upgrade on October 28th.

This upgrade will involve breaking changes that impact Soneium node operators and developers ⚙️.

👉Node Operators: Soneium Minato node operators are required to upgrade their node setup as detailed in the instructions provided here.
👉Developers: Developers working on Soneium Minato should familiarize themselves with the changes to gas price estimation and usage introduced by Fjord and Granite. However, all client-side tooling remains unaffected by the upgrade. More information for developers can be found here.
