The U.S. attacked and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship. Negotiations have been postponed.🇺🇸🇮🇷
On April 19, the guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance intercepted the MV Touska in the Gulf of Oman, near the Strait of Hormuz, as it attempted to evade the naval blockade
After several hours of warnings, the crew did not stop, so the U.S. ship fired several rounds into the engine room to disable it. Subsequently, U.S. Marines boarded the ship, which is now in U.S. custody.
Iran has called this act piracy and promises a response to these violations of the ceasefire.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei announced that, as of now, there are no plans to participate in the next round of negotiations. One of the reasons is that as long as the ceasefire is violated and Iranian ports and ships are threatened, normal transit through the Strait of Hormuz cannot be discussed.
As a result, the situation remains serious and tense, and concern over a resumption of armed hostilities is growing.

However, by superimposing the yellow line over the line of maximum Israeli penetration, one can see the difficulties Israeli forces have faced over these more than forty days of war in establishing a buffer zone that has failed to take shape as such, with areas in the rear still unsecured and no bridgehead secured on the Litani River. Nor has the capture of new Syrian territory such as Mount Hermon (which already appears as official Israeli territory) facilitated a significant Israeli penetration into the mountainous area of the Hasbaya District.
These setbacks mark the reversal suffered by Israel in this new Lebanese operation, which faces the challenge of maintaining a long-term occupation of Lebanese territory against resistance groups that are still far from being defeated.

The Yellow Line in Lebanon: From Theory to Practice.🇮🇱🇱🇧
The Israeli Ministry of Defense recently published a map of the “Forward Defense Line,” the line demarcating the buffer zone that Israel has so often mentioned, within which troops operate to eliminate Hezbollah and create a buffer zone to protect Israeli settlements near the Lebanese border.

The figures reflect Hezbollah’s remarkable ability to recover in just over a year, regaining much of its military strength, decentralizing its leadership, and rationalizing resources more efficiently. This has enabled the Lebanese resistance to sustain continuous attacks on Israeli positions both inside and outside Lebanon, contributing to the attrition of Israeli capabilities alongside Iran on one hand, and on the other hand, to wear down and hinder (even at the cost of a significant number of martyrs) an Israeli advance into Lebanese territory by leveraging their knowledge of the mountainous and rugged terrain against a technologically superior army, but one facing serious problems sustaining itself on the ground without air support or the commanders’ ability to mobilize troops for a solid occupation.
This has been a setback for Israel, which had been racking up victories since 2023 and was on its way to becoming the undisputed regional power. It has been unable to prevail against a militia, let alone bring about a political regime change in Iran.

Hezbollah provides an overview of its operations during the regional war.🇱🇧
Between March 2 and April 16, Hezbollah and other Lebanese resistance groups carried out 2,184 operations against Israel, 1,127 in occupied Palestine, and 1,057 on Lebanese territory, targeting various military and civilian objectives.
Noteworthy is the high number of tanks damaged or destroyed (188), which had a major impact on one of the Israeli army’s flagship weapons, the Merkava tank.

Fourth UNIFIL soldier killed in Lebanon. A search for a casus belli?🇮🇱🇱🇧🇫🇷
This morning, Master Sergeant Florian Montorio was killed in an ambush while the French contingent was conducting a “route clearance” mission en route to a UNIFIL post in Deir Kifa in southern Lebanon.
The perpetrators remain unknown, but Israel has accused Hezbollah of carrying out the attack, while the organization has rejected these accusations and urged Lebanese forces to open an investigation into the incident.
This is not the first UNIFIL soldier killed in Lebanon this year. In late March, Farizal Rhomadhon, an Indonesian soldier, was killed by Israel near Adchit al-Qusayr after a shell struck the observation post where he was stationed.
It is not surprising that Israel is seeking a reason for France to become more involved in Lebanon by staging a false Hezbollah attack, having failed in its attempt to expel the resistance from southern Lebanon.

The ceasefire continues in Lebanon... but in the Israeli style.🇮🇱🇱🇧
The Israeli military violated the ceasefire this morning with airstrikes on Beit Lif, Touline, Qantara, Beit Yahoun, and Kounine. Meanwhile, the IDF continues to demolish the villages where it remains deployed and erects barriers to prevent civilians from returning to their homes.
It is important to understand that the area currently occupied by Israel belongs to that 8-kilometer buffer zone of permanent occupation, free of Hezbollah and its supporters; this is how the ethnic cleansing currently underway is justified, even under a theoretical truce.

Iran has once again closed the Strait of Hormuz. 🇮🇷🇺🇸
Following Washington’s continued acts of piracy against “pro-Iranian” ships and its maintenance of a blockade on Iranian ports—paralyzing much of Iran’s maritime trade—Tehran announces that the Strait of Hormuz will return to its previous, more restrictive status and demands that this blockade be lifted in order to reopen the strait.
Iran is once again emphasizing the need for the U.S. to understand that the Strait of Hormuz belongs to Iran, not the U.S., and that negotiations regarding its opening must respect that status. Iran warns that it may impose new tariffs and controls on ships if negotiations are not conducted fairly for both parties; these negotiations could resume in Islamabad next Monday.
