The strategy followed by the Gulf regimes, Israel, and the US was to weaken Bashar Assad, not to overthrow him, in order to control him, whether directly or indirectly.
This is because a government born from the revolution would inevitably oppose Israel and the Arab authoritarian regimes.
They aimed to achieve two objectives:
1. Eliminating Iranian influence in Syria.
2. Ensuring the revolution’s failure.
This explains the Gulf regimes “support” at the beginning.
And this is one of the reasons I don’t like the revolutionaries, they were too naive to trust proxy regimes.
Did you know that 13.7 million Syrians were forced to leave their homes due to bombings by Russian forces, Iranian-backed militias, and Assad’s regime?
That’s more than the number of Palestinian refugees!
And some of their homes were given to Shia from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon, mainly in (sayyida zaibab) southern Damascus.!
Turkey alone hosts approximately 3.6 million Syrian refugees, the largest number of any country.
Germany welcomed around a million Syrian refugees during the peak of the crisis.
Don’t Take my world for it, Go look it up !
